I get questions sometimes on what types of rock are favorable for gold formation so prospectors can look at those places and have a better chance of success. There are a number of different types of geologic settings that lead to the formation of gold nuggets. Some are rare, and some occur at many places around the world. There are variations on all these different favorable rock types and each gold mining district has its own unique characteristics, but there are enough factors in common that its worth looking closely at some of the more common types.
