Systems available for small-scale in-vessel composting are outlined. In-vessel projects for composting municipal solid waste that are in the planning and development phase, or about to go on-line, are over-viewed. These projects range from 1-2 tons/day to～40 tons/day. The following composting projects are described: the Lower East Side Ecology Centre in Manhattan; Reeds Spring School District in Missouri; Missouri Department of Natural Resources; Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in Oak Harbour, Washington; Texas A&M University's animal science teaching research and extension complex; Menands composting transfer station, New York; and the Kelly Green Environmental Services/Bermuda Compost Systems International scheme in Bermuda, North America.
