The Electric Reliability Council of Texas July 19 forecast power demand to reach a record high of 80.4 GW with power price spikes likely, after load peaked at 79.1 GW July 18, which was itself a record high amid triple-digit temperatures. Hot weather in the neighboring the Midcontinent Independent System Operator market was also driving up power prices. As of about 2:30 pm ET, ERCOT forecast load to peak at 80.4 GW, slightly above the 79.1 GW all-time record set July 18, which was the ninth record set so far in 2022. The forecast also calls for peakloads above the existing record on July 20 reaching 81.5 GW.
