Investment in coal production is forecast to rise by 10pc on the year to $115.6bn in 2022 as tight supply continues, but a prolonged increase in coal fnancing is unlikely, according to the IEA. The global coal supply chain received $104.9bn of invest- ment in 2021, the highest since 2016, the IEA’s World Energy Investment 2022 report indicated. The agency explained that investing in coal supply is not only much less capital-intensive than other fossil fuels, but also less prone to year-on-year variations.
