Analytical instrumentation used for chemical or structural analysis in Electron Microscopes. Beam Lines and X-ray fluorescence instruments may measure X-ray or electron radiation generated through interactions of charged particles and use shielding to minimise radiation leakage to meet Health and Safety legislation. Radiation detectors are often mounted through a port on the side of a specimen chamber. A radiation sensor is typically mounted at the end of a supporting tube to position the sensor close to the specimen. A radiation-attenuating shield, made of high-density material, is typically positioned around the detector tube with minimum clearance to limit radiation leakage. See Figure 1.
