A Study of Internet Time Dissemination Services and Their Capabilities: NTP as a Special Case in Time Metrology

This paper explains the distribution of time and provides a brief overview of various dissemination services. While there are several dissemination services available, this paper focuses on time dissemination using the Network Time Protocol and its network performance. The various time dissemination services available, as well as their methodologies, are discussed. The Round Trip Time and Offset for various NTP servers are investigated. These servers are distributed with time stamps and are located in geographically diverse locations around the world. The jitter in the Round Trip Time and Offset for various NTP servers is also investigated. The paper focuses on the performance of various NTP servers in terms of RTT and Offset.
