Knowledge of dementia is important as the illness affects so many people, and it is frequently misdiagnosed. Chinese Americans, especially first-generation immigrants, are known to lack dementia knowledge (Ayalon and Arean, 2004; Ho and Woo, 2013). Understanding dementia literacy among Chinese American first-generation immigrants would be critical to design culturally sensitive programs to promote early dementia detection initiatives. However, till date, there is no measure on lay public's understanding of dementia among this ethnic minority group. Therefore, a survey has been conducted with Chinese American immigrants from the public to assess their knowledge on dementia regarding symptoms, causes, prognosis, treatment and diagnosis.
