Since December 1, 1958, when he was 46, William L. Mitchell was a General Motors vice president and head of the company's Styling Staff. His elevation didn't oblige the ebullient Mitchell, a sports-car enthusiast from his youngest days, to park his passions. On the contrary, he now had the means to realize his dreams.
