Discussions and dialogs concerning the Earth by scientists and designers - Science x Design Meeting 'Earth: Materials for Design'

When concerns raised by the scientist's sense of crisis are linked with the designer's power of imagination, essential questions related to design that do not merely concern making and selling things seem to surface. A dialog titled "Earth: Materials for Design" between design and science was held at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Tokyo, Odaiba, and its results were recently presented in the form of an exhibition. This project is characterized by the fact the study sessions by the specialists in science and design were held in a dialog format. In Step 1 "Material study session" participated by 80 designers, scientists gave a lecture on metal, plastic and wood that are familiar to us as materials for making things, and where they are positioned on the Earth's time scale.
