Advanced energy management and frequency control of distributed microgrid using multi-agent systems

One of the main objectives of the Energy ManagementSystem (EMS) is to achieve a very high level offlexibility, stability, and the system must be able to adaptto most changes in the distribution network. This paperproposes a multi-agent system-based microgrid energymanagement to balance the energy supply and demand byfeasibly integrating the energy storage system and demandresponse. An overall power management strategy isnecessary to manage power flows among all interconnectedelements of the microgrid. The principalcontribution of this paper is an energy management systembased on intelligent agents; each agent uses the microgriddata to manage the power flow in the microgrid. Theinteraction between agents proposed is simulated usingJADE (Java Agent Development Environment) and themicrogrid model is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink,both platforms are connected through the MACSimJXmiddleware for a dynamic simulation.
