Boxes of Motorsport Memories: RACING HISTORY IN THE PAPERS AND PHOTOS OF DR. FRANK FALKNER

Not all great automobilia collections are as big as the Brucker family's collection ("Kustom Kar Kulture Kashes In," June 19) that took up several warehouses and brought USD3 million at auction last month. Sometimes a few boxes can hold mementos as compelling as anything found at the Nether-cutt or Petersen museums. We got a call recently from Doug Stokes of Autobooks/Aerobooks (autobooks-aero-books.com) in Burbank, California, about a few cardboard boxes he received from racer Danny Sullivan. The contents of the boxes had come from Dr. Frank Falkner, a physician and professor emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, who was a mentor of Sullivan's and had remained a friend throughout his life.
