A SUSPECTED pirate has appeared in court in Denmark as the government defended its anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Guinea. Justice minister Nick Haekkerup said there was no option but to transfer the injured man to Denmark and prosecute him for attempted manslaughter, since no local country was available to take and prosecute any suspects. The three other suspects detained on November 24 in international waters off Nigeria were were sent back to its shore in a small boat with food and fuel, after more than a month in captivity on the frigate Esbern Snare.
