Panels are often overlooked in grander industrial strategies like digital transformation. However, panels need to be seen in the holistic view of a digital factory; a key part of the factory of the future. It's not just the panels themselves, it's the communications protocol that they utilise and the capabilities they bring to the table. So, what must panel builders and system integrators take into consideration to ensure they remain competitive and futureproof? In my role as a Product Manager, I work closely with system integrators (SIs), bringing together hardware and software considerations to achieve the best possible result. My first questions with SIs are always: what is the end goal of your customer, what is the product life cycle, what is the importance of any data collected and do you need to communicate with other devices? Only then can we start to look at how a single piece of equipment (in this case, a low-cost industrial panel PC) can take its rightful place in a wider digital transformation strategy.
