Letter to the Editor, Re: Night-shift work and risk of breast cancer (Kamdar et al., 10.1007/s10549-013-2433-1)

We thank Drs. Stevens and Hansen for this letter [1] and the opportunity to discuss these issues. Our intention was to provide an update of the 2005 meta-analysis [2], and examine for a possible dose-response relationship between night work and breast cancer risk. Consistent with this aim, we broadly defined 'night-shift work' to include all workers exposed to non-day work (5 pm to 8 am), not merely those assigned to the colloquial 'graveyard' shift. We conducted our systematic review and meta-analysis [3] in accordance with established guidelines [4], exhaustively screening nearly 6,000 citations and including all available published or unpublished data to minimize publication bias.
