摘要

"FORTUNATELY, WEBER CARBS don't work upside down!" That was one thing Gary Bartlett learned as he was hanging from his seatbelt in his USD3 million Jaguar XKSS, inverted among the shrubbery at the bottom of a steep Italian ravine. The 165-mph Jaguar's rear brakes had locked up approaching an intersection. Bartlett was two-thirds of the way through last year's Mille Miglia, an annual reenactment of the 1000-mile race around Italy last held in 1957. Now, average speed is controlled to about a third of that in 1955, when Stirling Moss averaged nearly 100 mph in his Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Nevertheless, there are ample opportunities for entrants to enjoy some performance motoring.
