摘要

Water transmission network constitutes a major portion in the multi-village water supply schemes. Conventional methods of designing the above network include use of EXCEL spread sheet, tailor made software and free software. WaterGEMS software accommodates facilities to analyze the pipe network with boundary conditions, viz., junction, tank and tank with flow control valve. Various challenges are encountered in the field during the operation and maintenance. Insufficient pressure, high/low and no flow at delivery points are a few observations. In order to demonstrate the effect of boundary conditions on the above challenges, modeling of a real time pipe network with various boundary conditions have been made using WaterGEMS software. Results indicate that the coincidence of flow rate and terminal pressure in the design by the tailor made software and modeling by WaterGEMS treating the zonal balancing reservoir as junction. When the zonal balancing reservoir is considered as a tank, no flow condition results in 8 out of 20 numbers of zonal balancing reservoirs. Modeling result indicates almost double the design flow in the network. As a result of more flow, increased frictional loss renders insufficient pressure. The tank with flow control valve condition matches with the field reality. Model study suggests a flow control/pressure reducing arrangement to ensure the scope of the water transmission network.
