The original Infiniti M45 was introduced in 2002 to mild fanfare then quickly slipped from sight, Based on the Japan-market Cedric/Gloria but with the brilliant 4.5-liter V8 from the Q45 and sporty driver calibrations; it failed to explicate itself. It was hard to know what to make of an elegant/sport/plain, luxury family sedan-glaringly understated yet tastefully overpowered. Some critics liked the M45/others didn't/while many didn't make anything of it at all. The term sleeper came up often, an apt description it turned out, as only a few thousand were sold.
