As the Biden administration works to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and wholly decarbonize the U.S. economy by 2050, the Interior Department announced Dec. 5 that it is taking several steps to accelerate deployment of solar projects across public lands in the West. In a visit to Arizona’s 260-megawatt Sonoran Solar Energy Project currently under development, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said that Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will update a decade-old final programmatic environmental impact statement (PEIS) for solar to encourage more development across the region.
