ALTHOUGH the Tesla is the cheaper car to buy outright, once we tally up our running costs, the difference between the two comes down to just £792 in the Model Y's favour over the course of three years. That also takes into account the fact that Tesla doesn't offer any sort of service schedule, claiming that an EV's low-maintenance motor needs little to no attention in that time. Add the costs of recommended work, which includes a brake fluid check and pollen filter replacement every 24 months, and the gap will shrink even further.
