THERE ARE DOZENS of ways to get from San Francisco to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, though we'd bet most people just jump on the 101 and shoot straight down to Monterey. With Mercedes-Benz's new SLK55 AMG at our disposal, we didn't want to blow an opportunity. So we took a more circuitous route, jumping off the 101 and snaking our way down on some lovely two-lanes such as Highways 35 and 9 through stunning state and county parks, down into Santa Cruz, where we picked up Highway 1 along the coast and took it to Laguna. It was the right decision.
