Located 30km outside Ouarzazate in Morocco, the village of Ouled Merzoug is brought to life by a river and a palm grove. In this village, as in most rural areas of Morocco, women are active. In addition to domestic chores and raising their children, they also help to provide for the family. As craftswomen, they master several skills such as weaving and pottery, which they practise in garages and small commercial premises. Many of them are members of the Ouled Merzoug women's association, created to support them in their craft production and to help them become more independent. The association also encourages the education of mothers, who in their turn ensure the transmission and education of children by organising regular literacy courses.
