The global feet of “shadow” tankers is sufcient to carry Rus sia’s 4.5mn b/d of crude exports after the EU import ban from 5 December, shipbroker BRS says. But the outlook for Russian products is less clear when the embargo on product imports is enforced from February, it warns. Generally older, often uninsured tankers carrying sanc-tioned Iranian and Venezuelan oil make up this shadow or “dark feet”-so-called because vessels turn of their track-ing signal when loading or discharging sanctioned cargoes to disguise their location.
