? 2022 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.Determination of the bending strength at elevated temperatures (hot modulus of rupture - HMOR) is a test method for refractory products, for example, according to standards EN 993-7 or ISO 5013: 1985. An HMOR model has been proposed, which can be used to describe the experimentally determined temperature dependence of strength. The model is based on the idea of the viscoelastic behaviour of a material, and although it contains a number of simplifications, it seeks to respect the physico-chemical nature of the processes in the material. The model is applied to selected refractory systems such as fine corundum and mullite ceramics, chamotte, refractory castables with various alumina cement content and bauxite/SiC castables.
