Abstract.Agglutinins to rabbit erythrocytes were found in saliva from all of 32 individuals. The titres ranged from 2 to 128, with a mode of 16. The agglutinins were of IgA class and behaved as specific antibodies. They did not fix complement and their sensitivity to mercaptoethanol varied. Immunization of rabbits with their own erythrocytes agglutinated by human saliva resulted in production of antisera, precipitating salivary and serum IgA. The antisera were made specific by absorption with rabbit erythrocytes agglutinated by human IgG. The antisera did not contain antibodies to the secretory component.
