摘要

The urea fertilizer industry is an important manufacturing sector, especially in India due to its agriculture-based economy. The urea fertilizer industry is one of the many other industrial sectors that require huge quantities of water. Therefore, to meet the needs of water requirement, fertilizer industry depends either on river or groundwater mainly depending on the location of the production units. Studies reveal that groundwater tables are depleting at a very fast rate in the many areas. Hence, it is imperative to save every single drop of water for the long-term sustainability. The paper focuses on the 7R methodologies used to achieve the targets. The water saving projects at Yara Fertilisers India Pvt. Ltd., Babrala, were initiated in 2019 and target is to achieve the 20 saving over baseline by 2024. Some of the strategies to save water include implementation of rooftop rainwater recycling; storm water harvesting; utilization of sewage water and other wastewater for high end application; optimization of water consumption in the process; and using innovative technologies to save water in the surrounding areas of the unit to help us achieve the targeted water saving annually. The long-term aim is to achieve water neutrality by 2030.
