A field experiment was conducted during 2017, pishanam season at Rice Research Station, Ambasamudram using 32 rice genotypes and four levels of N (0,60,120 and 180 kg N ha~(-1)) arranged in split plot design with two replications. The experimental results showed that, the highest grain and straw yields were recorded at N_3 (180 kg ha~(-1)) by the most of the rice genotypes. The genotype CB14533 had maximum NUE of 71.7 kg kg N~(-1) followed by PM12099 (62.3 kg kg N~(-1)) and the minimum efficiency of8.82 kg kg N~(-1) under AD10034 (Fig.5). The NUE of the genotypes decreased with increasing rate of application. Based on the grain yield and NUE values, the genotypes ADT39, ADT45, ACK14001, ACK14004, TM10085, TM12077 and PM12009 were classified as efficient and responsive to adopt nitrogen management practices. Selection of efficient genotypes for better use of applied N and evaluation of grain yield is an important preliminary effort. The attempt has been made to identify the efficient genotypes in order to increase grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in a sustained manner.
