Acute gastrointestinal (Gl) bleeds account for numerous patient visits to the emergency department and subsequent hospitalization. Depending on anatomical location, initial management is largely the same. Once the type and source of the Gl bleed is identified, targeted therapy may be initiated. Pharmacists are posed to ensure that proper targeted medical treatment is initiated, assist with de-escalation of therapies when appropriate, and advise on reversal and reinitiation of antithrombotic agents.
