Coming in 2015: A new title and a new look for asma's journal

It was time for some changes to the journal, and we felt that our readers deserve an explanation of what is happening and why. Historically, this journal has appeared under three names: The Journal of Aviation Medicine (1930-1958), Aerospace Medicine (1959-1974) and Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine (1975-2013). The first two reflected the original and revised names of the association. The 1975 change sought to emphasize the continuing importance of aviation in the specialty and added "environmental" to encourage submissions from other disciplines. However, no one ever seemed to know what the word meant in this context and, in recent years, the field of environmental medicine has come to denote toxic environments, with research reported in several other journals that use "environmental medicine" in their titles.
