The Chinese government is looking for ways to increase im- ports of coal in a bid to cope with widening blackouts that are partly the result of a shortage of the fuel. China’s top economic planning agency the NDRC is encour- aging domestic power and heat plants, especially in north- east China, to lock in imported coal at set prices as early as possible, it said in a press conference today. The call follows blackouts in several provinces in recent days.
