After the slightly frantic time of trying to get things planted in the spring, this, perhaps should be a time to sit back a bit and enjoy. After all what is the summer for if not to go boating and enjoy a few flowers?And, if you have been really conscientious, some home grown vegetables. Should you have grown spring bulbs this would be the time to tip them out and either store them somewhere dry for next year or replant them in the ground. If you don't have access to a garden look for a community garden or even pop them in a hedge row to flower again next spring. Gardening should be a joy and not a chore and, for me, growing a few things on board is a joy since it is easy to achieve good results with minimal effort. In some cases all one needs is a few pots, some compost and a garden centre! Even some supermarkets have a good range of garden plants at very competitive prices and, as for the herbs in pots; in my opinion they can't be beaten. A tumbling tomato plant potted up with Basil, Mint, Parsley, Coriander and perhaps a pot marigold (Calendula) not only provides a delight to the eye but also the humble salad!
