Cementos Argos' Rio Claro plant in Colombia wanted to achieve a higher clinker substitution rate as part of its mission to achieve net zero-CO_2 emissions by 2050. To do so, it built the world's largest calcined clay kiln in operation to date, with a capacity of 1500t/day (0.45Mt/yr). The final poz-zolanic Portland cement (PPC) made, marketed locally as Cemento Verde, has CO_2 emissions 38 lower than ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and uses 30 less energy to produce.
