The present invention provides innovative uses of the Ultra Wideband (UWB) (2.1) radar in conjunction with the interior monitoring system to improve safety, security, and user experience inside a vehicle and especially relevant on autonomous vehicle (AV) applications. Use of current systems (2.1)(2.2) that can detect presence, localization and classification between adults and children inside the vehicle to provide additional information like breathing rate pre-crash and post-crash, to identify distressing breathing patterns and work as an input to the Severity Prediction System (4)(8)(9) to improve the response to the accident. Use of the UWB radar (2.1) in conjunction with the interior monitoring systems (2.2) to compare between a baseline map and after-crash information to measure the damage and intrusion on the vehicle passenger compartment, this information is useful to first responders (9) to evaluate the trauma kinematics.
