Great apes of different species can make great friends. New research shows that wild chimpanzees and gorillas can form lasting relationships that persist for years.An analysis of data collected over 20 years in the Republic of Congo, at sites where - unusually - both chimps and gorillas are habituated to human observers, turned up 285 social interactions between the species. These included the apes feeding, resting, playing and travelling together.
