In our forecast issue last month we presented comments on how we expected various segments of the standard pipe market to perform in 2022. We have also discussed in past issues of this Report, how the standard pipe market has declined over the period since the great recession. Some of the decline was coincidental and some was a product of the recession and more off-shoring. In the plumbing, HVAC, and building mechanical segments, standard pipe has lost significant ground to plastic and other products. We estimate that demand for standard pipe for those applications is about 40, during similar market conditions, of what it was prior to the recession.
