Invited discussion: the influence of reduction mammaplasty techniques in synchronous breast cancer diagnosis and metachronous breast cancer prevention.

摘要

The application of plastic surgical principles to the resection of tumors of the breast must never compromise the oncologic tenets required for their effective ablation. This and previous papers quoted by the authors clearly demonstrate that breast reduction techniques when used in the performance of partial mastectomies not only result in superior esthetic results but also permit, in most cases, a wider margin of normal tissue to be taken with the specimen. It also argues strongly for the training of plastic surgery-trained breast oncologists or perhaps surgical oncologists who have completed a fellowship in plastic surgery of the breast.
