Germany's cigarette market proved to be rather stable in 1995. Total cigarette consumption, comprised of manufactured cigarettes, roll-your-owns, tobacco rolls, and border sales totalled 164.1 billion units according to forecasts based on January to November sales. This is some 700 million cigarettes more than in the previous year. Sales of manufactured cigarettes, which constitute the biggest single market segment, amounted to 133.5 billion units, up some 0.7% as against 1994. The sales represent aturnover of DM32.5 billion, tobacco tax and V.A.T. of DM23.7 billion included.
