Evaluation of chemicals and botanicals on the damage caused by coconut perianth mite, Aceria guerreronis Keifer.

The chemicals carbosulfan and monocrotophos were tested through the root feeding method, while dicofol and botanicals (garlic+neem oil and neem oil alone) were applied as direct spray on the nuts in an experiment conducted in Tamil Nadu, India. The percent damage of young nuts (four-month-old bunches) was observed. The damage level on young nuts was minimum in carbosulfan- (18.4%) and garlic+neem oil-treated trees (32.1%) after three rounds of treatments. The number of undamaged harvested nuts were high in the carbosulfan- and garlic+neem oil-treated trees and harboured 41.4% and 32.4% grade 1 nuts, respectively, during the third harvest.
