Orchids of the Stirling Range

Margaret has had a lifelong interest in native orchids and is a very keen photographer of native plants. She is also involved in Bushcare in Sutherland Shire, within the Sydney metropolitan area. For many of us who live in the Eastern states, the wildflowers of Western Australia act like a magnet - something you should see at least once in our lifetime. If you are keen on orchids a visit to the Stirling Range is a must, as 123 different varieties of terrestrial orchids have been recorded in the area.We visited the Stirling Range during the second week in October, and this proved to be a good time as it coincided with the flowering period of many of the orchids and other native plants. Late winter through spring is considered to be the peak time for orchids in the Stirling Range.
