Record natural gas prices are creating a fresh challenge for European refners with higher operational costs. European refners have struggled since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, as refning margins came under heavy pressure from lower transport fuel demand. A recovery in road fuel demand to pre-pandemic levels this summer provided some respite, but soaring natural gas prices are creating a new challenge for European refners in the form of a sharp increase in operating costs.
