Green ants as biological control agents in tropical agroforestry

Most tree species in the Meliaceae family such as red cedar (Toona ciliata) and African mahogany (Khaya senegalensis) are identified as high potential quality timber tree species in agroforest systems in tropical Australia. Their quality and quantityof timber production are affected, however, by a range of insect pests that defoliate, suck sap or bore in growing tips, stems or branches.
