Avoidable yield loss due to reniform nematode, R. reniformis, was studied in sunflower (MSHF-8) and groundnut (cv. J-11) in New Delhi, India, during 2001-02 and 2002-03. Significant reduction in yield due to nematode was calculated to be 48.7 and 40.8% in 2002-03 and 2003-04, respectively. The cost:benefit ratios for 2002-03 and 2003-04 were 1:2.82 and 1:3.11, respectively. The application of carbofuran 3 G at 3.0 kg a.i./ha enhanced the yield of groundnut and significantly reduced the nematode population under field conditions. The avoidable yield loss was 37.7% and the cost:benefit ratio was found to be 1:2.73 when groundnut was sold at 20.0 rupees/kg.
