The government of the United Kingdom on January 31 announced the launch of Nuclear Waste Services. The new organization brings together site operator Low Level Waste Repository Limited, geological disposal facility developer Radioactive Waste Management Limited, and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority's (NDA) Integrated Waste Management Program. The NDA announced in January 2021 its intention to create a single waste division to bring together its waste management expertise, "enabling us to grow capability, simplify how we operate, and deliver greater value for the taxpayer." The NDA is responsible for the management, decommissioning, and cleanup of 17 nuclear sites across the United Kingdom. Nuclear Waste Services will oversee the NDA's integrated waste program.
