However, the new roadmap shows a credible pathway to transition to net zero by 2050. It demonstrates that the sector has multiple options, many of which are already at industrial pilot stage, for achieving net zero.Steel is the cheapest "harder to abate" industrial sector to decarbonise, according to consultants McKinsey, with an average abatement cost estimated to be around £90 per tonne of steel.
