Purchase price of replacement rams should be considered as a variable cost in calculating the gross margin of a wool-producing enterprise. When ram cost is converted to a cost per lamb produced, it can be shown that joining percentage, lambing rate and the number of years rams are joined, all have an influence on the outcome.
