Huge eastern states grain harvest

The Australian wheat crop is expected to come in at around 26 million tonnes when the harvest is competed in January. This is huge a crop and is remarkable for being produced predominantly out of the eastern states. Australia's record wheat productionwas in 2003-04, when the Australian Bureau of Statistics recorded a crop of 26.1 million tonnes. At that time, Western Australia contributed about 30% of the national total. For the current harvest, WA is forecast to produce only 3.5 million tonnes or 13% of the expected total.
