Top sires entered in world's finest ram project

Applications for entrants to the 1996 world's finest ram project were received from studs throughout Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, the New Zealand applicants were forced to withdraw because of insufficient time to meet the strict regulations regarding import of sheep semen into Australia. These studs have deferred their application until next year. The 12 rams were finally selected into the program by the managing committee (Bill Crawford and Geoff King, from the Victorian Stud Merino Breeders Association; Andrew Vizard, Mackinnon Project, University of Melbourne and Linda Hygate, geneticist, Agriculture Victoria). A brief description of these rams, compiled by PATRICK FRANCES is given below.
