Third generation grazier, Matthew Eckford, knows one end of a sheep from another. Raised on a sheep and cattle property at Julia Creek in north Queensland, he completed work experience in wool management at Acacia Wool and also completed the ResourceConsulting Services' Grazing for Profit course, qualifying for the practice of holistic management - all before finishing high school. Now, Eckford has switched his focus from wool fibre to optic fibre. In response to issues of isolation and the difficulty of supply on his family property, he has spent the last year developing his concept for a rural-specific website that helps farmers find everything they need in one central place on the web. "My family were experiencing many of the difficulties common to farms in rural and regional Australia," Eckford says.
