SCABBY mouth is a common condition, and can be readily prevented with a single vaccination, but until recently vaccination was only recommended in flocks with a recurrent disease problem causing obvious production loss. This advice has now changed. Earlier this year a major campaign in Western Australia promoted scabby-mouth vaccination of all lambs at lamb marking. The campaign was supported by Agriculture WA, the WA Farmers Federation and the Pastoralists and Graziers Association of WA. A similar campaign is about to begin in the eastern states, promoting scabby mouth vaccination of all lambs destined for live export.
