Electronic fencing system comes a step closer

A MAJOR step towards the development of an electronic fencing system for cattle is being taken by Agriculture Western Australia. A national advertisement placed by the department seeks to appoint a consultant who will gauge primary producers' interest in the concept and the cost of producing the technology in Australia. A research visit by Agriculture WA project manager, Dr Robert Rou-da, to the United States last year, jointly funded with the Land and Water Resources R&D Corporation (LWRRDC), examined a prototype system developed by the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service as an economical way to keep cattle away from fragile river banks.
