OVER the past 12 months, Wool International (WI) has sought to develop and evaluate a forward marketing business for privatisation. This program, developed from WI research, indicated that forward tradrng and risk management, along with the need to reduce the costs of raw wool marketing, are the key strategic priorities for woolgrowers and their customers. In December 1995, WI published an Information Memorandum proposing that WI Holdings initiate a two-year development and evaluation phase for a business in the forward marketing of wool, which is now at an advanced stage. The success of the proposals depended on the involvement and co-operation of wool brokers and others providing marketing services to woolgrowers WI concluded that the best optionfor implementation would be through a. commercial alliance with wool brokers.
